According to legends, this is the final resting place of 'Gelert', the faithful hound of Welsh Prince Llewelyn. In the 13th century Llewelyn, Prince of North Wales, had a palace at Beddgelert. He was a keen hunter, and spent a lot of his time hunting in the countryside around Beddgelert. Llewelyn had a large pack of hunting dogs but his favourite was Gelert. They were inseparable on hunting days.
