Oh that does bring back happy memories...
Did you know much of the background in Rupert was inspired by the landscape around Snowdonia? Alfred Bestall, author and illustrator of Rupert loved holidaying in Snowdonia and bought a cottage at the foot of Mynydd Sygun, in Beddgelert. He named it Penlan. You can see the cottage in Beddgelert at the start of the footpath up Mynydd Sygun.
Bestall produced his last Rupert story on 22 July 1965. He continued creating annual publication covers until 1973. Bestall was honoured with an MBE in 1985, but was unable to receive the award in person due to ill health. He had bone cancer and died on January 15, 1986 in Porthmadog. He was 93.
For a bit of nostalgia here are the lyrics in full. Enjoy and feel free to sing out loud.
