Did you know there are many award winning wines created in Wales? It may not yet rival California, Rioja or Bordeaux but there are many vineyards producing great wines right here in Wales. One of these vineyards, 'Pant Du' is literally on our doorstep, within 10 minutes walking distance from Ashcoast House.
The vineyard was established in 2007. Around 6600 vines were planted on a 7.5 acre site. A further 1300 'Rondo grape', which loves Nantlle Valley, have been planted since. In total 8 different types of vines have been planted: Bacchhus, Seyval, Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Frühburgunder, Siegerrebe, Regent & Rondo
The Rondo grape crop in 2010 was the first to produce wine. By the following Summer 'Pant Du Rondo' red wine 2010 was ready to drink. The wine won an United Kingdom Vineyards Association (UKVA) bronze medal. That was followed by 'Pant Du Rondo' red 2011; and 'Pant Du Rondo' rosé 2012, which won the Welsh Vineyards Association, Wine Competition 2013.
The Orchard was established in 2007, with some 2900 apple trees planted on the 16 acre site. 2000 of these are traditional cider apple trees, and the rest are the native Welsh apple tree: Bardsey Apple, a variety that was at one time almost extinct.
